PRIVATE WINE TOUR SAMPLE ITINERARY: VISIT TWO OF MEXICO'S BEST BOUTIQUE WINERIES WITH FULL-FLIGHT WINE TASTINGS AT EACH + CURATED MULTI-COURSE GOURMET LUNCH OVERLOOKING THE VINEYARDS*
8:30-8:45am: Meet your bilingual culinary guide and driver at the designated meeting point on the US side of the US-Mexico border in San Ysidro, California (the San Diego to Tijuana border crossing). It's an easy drive to the meeting point, or take public transportation (San Diego Trolley), taxi, or Uber (pick-up in Baja, north of Ensenada, available by advanced appointment - see below for details).
8:45-9:00am: Cross the border on foot with your guide through Mexican Immigration and Customs to our well appointed tour vehicle waiting on the Mexico side of the border.
9:00-11:00am: Drive to the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's Wine Country (stop for restrooms as necessary).
11:00-12:30pm: Winery Stop #1 - As you take in the expansive morning views of the Valle de Guadalupe, you’ll enjoy a complete tasting flight of premium handcrafted wines while noshing on local artisan cheese and farm-to-table tapas; we’ll take you behind the scenes for a tour of the winemaking facilities at this state-of-the-art boutique winery, and you’ll learn about the fascinating history and unique methodology of Mexican winemaking.
12:30-1:00pm: Drive to boutique winery #2
1:00-2:00pm: Winery Stop #2 - Out on a country dirt road we’ll find our second boutique winery that is well hidden from the hustle and bustle of the Region and you’ll appreciate why you selected BTK as your guide; here you’ll enjoy another premium wine tasting flight and you might even start feeling a little tipsy, but don’t worry, lunch is next and we are doing all the driving! In addition to tasting more of Mexico’s best wines, you’ll explore unique architecture, take a selfie or two with friends, and get wrapped up even more in the Baja California wine movement as you learn the important differences between small-batch and large-scale winemaking.
2:00-2:30pm: Drive to Lunch
2:30-4:00pm: Gourmet Lunch Stop - Sit down for a curated campestre-style gourmet lunch served "al fresco" overlooking the vineyards at one of the region’s top-rated outdoor eateries; our expert knowledge of the local culinary movement will shine through as you taste from multiple dishes that truly represent the best of Baja California gastronomy; with Baja Test Kitchen as your culinary guide, your dining experience is sure to be one of the memorable highlights of your trip (curated multi-course tasting menu with share plates served family style; non-alcoholic beverage included; local wine & beer available for extra purchase; blankets available if it's chilly).
4:00-5:30pm: Tummy full, and pleasantly buzzed, sit back and enjoy the picturesque drive back to the border in Tijuana, Mexico (stop for restrooms as necessary; if you met your tour at our designated border meeting point, your guide will drop you off directly in front of the entry to the pedestrian border crossing where you will cross by foot back into the U.S.).
5:30-6:00pm: After clearing U.S. Immigration and Customs, walk back to your car parked in San Ysidro, California, or catch the San Diego Trolley, taxi, or Uber (while most of our groups usually experience just 10-20 minute crossing times, your arrival time in San Ysidro is highly dependent on the actual border wait time on the day of your tour, which may vary - BTK has no ability to affect actual border wait times).
*This is a sample itinerary; after paying your reconciliation invoice for the full cost of your tour (see details below), you will receive an email with your actual itinerary including links to the boutique wineries and restaurant you will visit on tour. Baja Test Kitchen will select the wineries and restaurant for your itinerary, noting that we only work with Mexico’s top boutique wineries and the region’s best farm-to-table restaurants. Specific vendor requests (wineries, restaurants, venues, etc.) cannot be guaranteed, however we will make reasonable attempts to fulfill your reasonable requests - additional costs may apply for some vendors - inquire for details. Please understand that our winery and dining partners are independent businesses and we ultimately have no control over their availability, cancellations, and other inconveniences imposed by them. We work with most of the top wineries, restaurants, and venues in the Region, and if we must substitute a vendor or vendors on your itinerary, the overall quality of your experience will not be altered.
RESERVING & CONFIRMING YOUR PRIVATE TOUR DATE - HOW IT WORKS
We Charge a Non-Refundable Date-Hold Deposit - Scroll Up to Reserve Your Tour Date Now. During checkout, you'll specify your group size and requested tour date, and if your requested date is available, we'll confirm your requested tour date within 72-hours of receiving your date-hold deposit payment. If your requested tour date is not available (and you have not specified an alternate tour date), we will refund your entire deposit within 72-hours of receiving your deposit payment (note that it may take up to seven business days for deposit refunds to appear back in your account). If your first choice tour date is not available, but you have specified an alternate tour date that is available, we'll confirm your alternate tour date within 72-hours of receiving your date-hold deposit payment. Your date-hold deposit is only refundable in cases where we are unable to confirm your first or second choice tour date. Specifying an alternate tour date (a 2nd choice tour date) is optional, but encouraged if your group is available on multiple dates.
Paying Your Reconciliation Invoice To Confirm Your Private Tour Reservation: Your private tour reservation will be considered tentative until full payment for your reservation is received. When we confirm that your requested tour date is available, we'll also send a reconciliation invoice according to your group's headcount; see tour pricing schedule below (your reconciliation invoice will be for the total due according to the number of people in your group, minus the date-hold deposit you have paid). If your tour date is within 30-days of booking, you'll have 72-hours to pay your reconciliation invoice - failure to pay your reconciliation invoice within 72-hours of when the invoice was sent will result in cancellation of your reservation without refund, credit, or rescheduling allowance (you'll forfeit your entire date-hold deposit). If your tour date is more than 30-days from booking, you must pay your reconciliation invoice at least 30-days before your tour date - failure to pay your reconciliation invoice at least 30-days in advance of your tour date will result in cancellation of your reservation without refund, credit, or rescheduling allowance (you'll forfeit your entire date-hold deposit).
Private Tour Cancellations, Rescheduling, & Refunds: Once paid, your date-hold deposit is non-refundable except in cases where we are unable to confirm either your first or second choice requested tour date - see reservation and confirmation details above. Cancellation, rescheduling, and refund requests are subject to the policies specified in our Payment Terms & Conditions (please review these terms and conditions before paying your date-hold deposit).

Once your tour date is confirmed, you will receive a reconciliation invoice according to your group size and the tiered pricing schedule above. Your reconciliation invoice will be for the total due according to the number of people in your group, minus the date-hold deposit you have paid. Our standard Payment Terms & Conditions apply to all sales/reservations.
Your private tour reconciliation invoice will be based on the tiered pricing schedule above. A mandatory 18% non-refundable service gratuity is added for all private tours. This gratuity is collected by BTK, and will be paid by BTK to your tour guide or workshop leader and service staff. At the end of your tour, you may elect to pay an additional service gratuity directly to your guide, however, doing so is optional, but encouraged for exceptional customer service. This requirement for private parties is in keeping with hospitality and service industry standards.
For groups of 1-9, a one-time $150 private tour surcharge is added. The private tour surcharge is waived when your group is 10+ paid tour participants. Our largest tour vehicle will accommodate up to 14 tour participants. We may be able to accommodate groups larger than 14 tour participants on your requested date - inquire for a price quote.
A $250 per tour vehicle refundable security deposit for damage, excess wear, and/or excess cleaning is required for groups of six (6) or more, and for all bachelor/bachelorette parties of any size. If there is no damage or excess wear to our tour vehicle(s), and if no more than normal cleaning is required, BTK will refund your security deposit within 3-7 business days of your tour date.
All food and beverage as described in the itinerary above: visit two of Mexico's top boutique wineries and enjoy a complete premium wine tasting flight at each winery; nosh on select artisan cheeses and cold-pressed organic olive oil at one winery; and enjoy an expertly curated multi-course gourmet lunch overlooking the vineyards at one of Mexico's chic campestre-style eateries (tasting menu with share plates; wine and craft beer available for additional purchase at lunch) | Round-trip transportation in a well appointed air-conditioned tour vehicle from our designated border meeting point, with additional pick-ups available in Baja, north of Ensenada available by advanced reservation; one pick-up/drop-off location per group | Your bilingual culinary guide is a knowledgable ambassador of Northern Baja California's culinary scene | All itinerary times above, except the start time, are approximate, and vendors may be substituted based on their availability.

PRIVATE TOUR DEPARTURE LOCATIONS
From the U.S., you will meet your culinary guide on the U.S. side of the border at our designated border meeting point in San Ysidro, California (the Tijuana border crossing). It's an easy drive to this border meeting point (with paid secure parking nearby), or take public transportation (San Diego Trolley), taxi, or Uber.
If you are staying in Baja California, we can arrange to pick you up at your hotel or house rental in Tijuana, Rosarito Beach, La Misión, Tecate, North Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe, or surrounding areas. One pick-up location per group (multiple pick-ups for the same tour reservation may be available for an additional fee).
TAKE NOTE BEFORE PAYING YOUR DATE-HOLD DEPOSIT
Once your tour date in confirmed, date-hold deposits are non-refundable. Book early to confirm your tour date - our tour dates are reserved and confirmed on a first-paid basis, and dates often sell-out well in advance. When scheduling conflicts occur, priority is given to the customer who pays first. This culinary tour can accommodate vegetarians and pescatarians, but is not advised for strict vegans. Every tour participant must be at least 18 years old and carry a valid passport and if applicable, a valid multiple-entry U.S. Visa or U.S. Resident Card - minors will not be allowed to participate. Everyone in your group must agree to and sign the Baja Test Kitchen Participation Agreement (release of liability) at least three (3) days prior to departure. BTK tours are 100% non-smoking/non-vaping. Tours run rain or shine. Please read our FULL Payment Terms & Conditions and Tour Policies before paying your date hold-deposit. Your date-hold deposit payment constitutes your full acceptance of the Terms, Conditions, and Tour Policies found on the Baja Test Kitchen website. Once paid, your date-hold deposit is non-refundable (except in cases where we are not able to confirm your requested tour date) and rescheduling is subject to the policies and provisions for rescheduling found in our Payment Terms & Conditions. Failure to arrive at the designated meeting point on time will constitute your cancellation without refund, credit, or rescheduling allowance.
